Avoiding Scams
|
|
You can avoid would-be scammers by following these common-sense rules.
- If the deal seems to good to be true, it is most likely a scam.
- If the person asks you to wire transfer money it is most likely a scam.
- Seller won't meet with you, or a friend, when both live in the same city.
- They "guarantee" the transaction.
- They claim that The Basement Cellar will guarantee the transaction. The Basement
Cellar is not involved in your transactions in any way.
- Seller asks for partial payment upfront, before they will ship the goods.
- Seller asks for YOUR financial information...Never give financial information
to anyone.
- They "trust" you so much, they send you a cashiers check (a fake) that is worth more than
the amount of what you are selling and ask you to wire them back the difference.
Your bank may cash the fake check, then you wire the money, only later does the
bank discover the fake and then you are liable for the wire transfer amount and your item is gone.
